Route Running Precision for 4A WRs: The '5-7-5' Drill
At Pueblo South Colts, we're focusing on precise route running this summer. The '5-7-5' drill is a game-changer for our 4A wide receivers. Set up five cones in a zig-zag pattern, 7 yards apart. Players start at the first cone, then run a 5-yard out route, a 7-yard in route, and finally a 5-yard comeback route. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Keep your eyes on the quarterback,' 'Plant your outside foot,' and 'Finish with your hands.' This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to quickly read defenses and make precise cuts. It also enhances their footwork and hand-eye coordination, making them more effective in tight spaces. Run this drill at your next summer camp and watch your WRs take their game to the next level.
