Bruins Blitz: Unlocking Defensive End Potential with the 'Rip and Rebound' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Cherry Creek BruinsยทWednesday, July 29, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the 2026 season approaches, defensive ends at 5A programs like Cherry Creek Bruins will need to sharpen their skills to dominate on the field. One effective drill to add to your training regimen is the 'Rip and Rebound' exercise. This drill targets the essential skills of speed, agility, and strength required for a dominant defensive end. Set up two cones 10 yards apart, with a third cone 5 yards beyond the second cone. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, alternating between 'rip' and 'rebound' phases. In the 'rip' phase, explosively accelerate through the first two cones, focusing on proper footwork and pad level. In the 'rebound' phase, immediately change direction and recover to the third cone, showcasing agility and quickness. This drill translates to game performance by improving a defensive end's ability to quickly close gaps and recover to the ball carrier.
