FridayNightPulse: Shelton Gaels LB Drill - 'The Rip and React'
This summer, Shelton Gaels linebackers will be putting in the work with a drill designed to sharpen their reaction time and pursuit skills. The 'Rip and React' drill involves a series of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest in between sets. Players will start in a 3-point stance, with their eyes on the quarterback. On the whistle, they'll rip their eyes to the sideline, then quickly react to a defender's movement, changing direction and pursuing a ball carrier. Coaching cues include 'rip and react' and 'follow the ball.' This drill translates to game performance by simulating the quick changes in direction linebackers face on the field. By improving reaction time and pursuit speed, Gaels linebackers will be better equipped to make tackles and disrupt opposing offenses.
