Quarterback Accuracy: The 'Quick Release' Drill
At the lower-level programs like Southington Blue Knights, developing a strong quarterback is crucial for success. One drill that can help improve accuracy is the 'Quick Release' drill. This drill focuses on the quarterback's ability to release the ball quickly and accurately, even under pressure. To set up the drill, divide the quarterbacks into pairs with one quarterback as the passer and the other as the receiver. The passer will stand 10 yards away from the receiver, who will be running a 5-yard out route. The passer will have to release the ball within 2 seconds of the snap. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps and increase the difficulty by adding a defender or increasing the distance. Coaching cues include 'quick eyes' and 'smooth release.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing quarterbacks to develop the muscle memory and timing needed to make accurate throws under pressure.
