Building a Stronger Spartan Line: The 'Spartan Stance' Drill for OL Players
At Maloney High School, our strength and conditioning coach has developed a drill to improve the footwork and agility of our OL players. The 'Spartan Stance' drill involves 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, then quickly shift into a 2-point stance, mimicking the movement of a defensive lineman. As they shift, they must maintain a strong base and keep their hands up in a pass-blocking position. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the OL's ability to react quickly to defensive linemen and maintain a strong stance in the face of pressure. By incorporating this drill into our summer camp, we're confident our Spartans will be better equipped to take on the competition this season.
