Boost Your Kicking Game with the 'Step-Up' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Maloney SpartansยทMonday, July 20, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At LL programs like Maloney Spartans, kicking specialists need to develop explosive power and accuracy. One effective drill to achieve this is the 'Step-Up' drill. Set up two cones 5 yards apart, with a third cone 2 yards behind the second one. K kickers start at the first cone, then step up onto the second cone with their non-kicking foot, keeping their kicking foot on the ground. From this position, they kick a ball through the third cone. Coaches cue: 'Step up high, kick through!' Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving kickers' ability to generate power from a shorter distance, mimicking the pressure of a live game. By incorporating the 'Step-Up' drill into your pre-season training, your K players will be ready to take on the competition.
