Building a Stronger Southington Blue Knights OL: The 'Plyometric Box Jump' Drill
At the lower levels of high school football, developing a strong and athletic offensive line is crucial for success. One effective drill to improve OL players' explosiveness and power is the plyometric box jump. This drill involves placing a plyometric box or bench at a height of 20-24 inches. OL players will perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on exploding upward from a standing position and landing softly on the balls of their feet. Coaching cues include 'Drive through your heels' and 'Land softly, don't absorb.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a player's ability to quickly change direction and generate power in their blocks. By incorporating this drill into their pre-season training, the Southington Blue Knights OL can develop the explosiveness and power needed to dominate on the field.
