FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Tight End Development Drill
Shelton Gaels' tight ends are gearing up for a strong season with a focus on route running and blocking technique. One essential drill to improve their skills is the 'Route Box Drill.' Divide the tight ends into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the defender. Set up a 10-yard box with cones, with each corner marked with a number (1-4). The receiver starts at the center of the box and runs a specific route (e.g., out, in, or dig) to the corresponding numbered corner. The defender must react quickly to the receiver's movement and make a tackle. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps, switching roles after each set. This drill translates to game performance by improving the tight end's ability to quickly read the defense and create separation, as well as the defender's reaction time and tackling technique.
