Smyrna Eagles CBs: Master the 'Backpedal to the Ball' Drill
This summer, Smyrna Eagles cornerbacks can take their game to the next level with the 'Backpedal to the Ball' drill. This exercise targets reaction time, footwork, and spatial awareness โ essential skills for shutdown corners. The drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps. Start with the CB in a backpedal position, 10 yards off the receiver. On the coach's signal, the CB must quickly backpedal to the receiver, staying on their toes and keeping their eyes on the ball. As the CB reaches the receiver, they must explosively change direction and close the gap. Coaching cues include 'Stay light on your feet' and 'Keep your eyes on the prize.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing CBs to react quickly to receivers and maintain coverage even in tight spaces.
