Spartan Shutdown: CB Drill for Div II Dominance
Defensive backfield coaches at St. Mark's Spartans are prepping their cornerbacks for a dominant 2026 season with the 'Shuttle-Shake' drill. This high-intensity workout targets quickness, agility, and reaction time. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps each, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, 5 yards apart, with a coach or teammate holding a ball at chest level. On the whistle, the player sprints to the ball, 'shuts down' the opponent (by making contact with the ball carrier), and immediately changes direction to 'shake' the ball loose. Key coaching cues include 'quick feet,' 'stay low,' and 'eyes on the prize.' This drill translates to game performance by replicating the sudden changes of direction and reaction time required to stay with top receivers. By mastering the Shuttle-Shake, St. Mark's cornerbacks will be ready to shut down even the fastest opponents.
