At top Div I programs like Appoquinimink Jaguars, coaches are using the 'Pillar Shuffle' drill to improve OL footwork and reaction time. This drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, with hands on the ground and feet shoulder-width apart. On the whistle, they quickly shuffle to their right, then back to the starting position, and finally to their left. The key coaching cue is to emphasize 'quick feet, not big feet.' This drill translates to game performance by improving OL ability to quickly react to defensive stunts and blitzes. It also enhances their ability to maintain balance and control in the pocket.
