The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders, a 5A powerhouse from Fort Lauderdale, broke ground Thursday on a $3 million facility upgrade. The Raiders, who have won 12 state championships since 2000, have been a dominant force in South Florida high school football. The upgrade will feature a new weight room, locker rooms and training facilities. Raiders coach John Carroll said the upgrade will help the program attract top recruits and stay competitive with other top programs in the state. The Raiders have been a perennial top-10 team in the state and have produced several Division I players in recent years. The upgrade is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2024 season.
