Boosting Kickoff Coverage: A Drill for 8A K Players
As the summer heats up, 8A programs like Apopka Blue Darters are gearing up for a strong season. For kickers, a key focus is building coverage and hang time. To improve these skills, we recommend the 'Tire Drill.' Set up 3-4 tires in a row, spaced 10 yards apart. K players will start at the first tire, then kick the ball through the next tire, and continue until they reach the final tire. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Follow through on your kick,' 'Keep your eyes on the target,' and 'Drive your plant foot into the ground.' This drill translates to game performance by improving accuracy and consistency, allowing kickers to cover more ground and pin opponents deep. By incorporating the Tire Drill into their summer training, kickers can gain a competitive edge.
