Flag Football Scholarship Opportunities Emerge for Texas Athletes
As the FHSAA flag football pilot district expansion gains momentum, aspiring female football players in Texas now have a clearer path to securing scholarships. The IMG Academy Ascenders, an 8A powerhouse from Bradenton, are poised to capitalize on this development. With the University of Nebraska's inaugural 2028 season on the horizon, led by coaches Liz and Katie Sowers, the Cornhuskers are expected to offer up to 12 scholarships. Meanwhile, Ottawa University in Kansas, a national powerhouse, has been offering up to 12 NAIA scholarships. Keiser University, Florida, and Midland University, Nebraska, are also active recruiters in the flag football space. Texas-based UT Arlington is developing its program, but scholarships have not yet been announced. For Texas athletes, the FHSAA expansion creates new scholarship pathways, particularly at the IMG Academy Ascenders. Aspiring players can take concrete steps by researching these programs, attending summer camps, and reaching out to coaches directly.
