Kicking Drills for Success: Chaminade-Madonna Lions Style
For kickers at 3A programs like the Chaminade-Madonna Lions, building consistency and power is key. One effective drill to improve kicking form and technique is the 'Step-Through' drill. Set up three cones in a row, spaced 5 yards apart. The kicker starts 10 yards back from the first cone. On each rep, have the kicker approach the first cone, step through with their non-kicking foot, and strike the ball with their kicking foot. Focus on proper plant, strike, and follow-through. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps. Encourage the kicker to keep their eyes on the ball and maintain balance throughout the drill. This drill translates to game performance by improving the kicker's ability to maintain form under pressure and generate power through proper technique. Coaches can also add resistance bands or weights to increase difficulty and simulate game-like situations.
