Unlocking Tight End Potential: The Ascender's Slant Route Drill
At IMG Academy Ascenders, our 8A tight ends are gearing up for a dominant season with a focus on precision and speed. One key drill that's helping them dominate the competition is the Slant Route Drill. This high-intensity workout targets the TE's ability to create separation and secure passes in tight spaces. To run the drill, set up a 10-yard line with two cones 5 yards apart. Have your TE start at the line of scrimmage, then sprint to the cone, planting their outside foot and turning their body to the quarterback. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick footwork and a sharp cut. Coaching cues include 'slant and separate' and 'eyes on the QB.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to create separation and secure passes in traffic, making them a nightmare for defenders to cover.
