Unlocking Speed and Power: DE Drill for Apopka Blue Darters
As the 8A season approaches, defensive end players at Apopka Blue Darters must be prepared to dominate on the field. One key drill to focus on is the 'Speed Bag Shuttle.' This drill targets explosive acceleration, agility, and power. To set up, place a speed bag or a heavy medicine ball on the ground. Players will start in a three-point stance, then explosively jump up, grab the bag, and immediately shuttle 5 yards to the right, then 5 yards to the left. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'Fast feet, fast hands' and 'Keep your eyes on the bag.' This drill translates to game performance by improving DEs' ability to quickly close gaps and chase down ball carriers. It also enhances their overall speed and agility, making them a formidable force on the defensive line.
