Pioneering Pathways: Flag Football Scholarship Opportunities Emerge for Texas Athletes
The FHSAA's flag football pilot district expansion is poised to create new scholarship pathways for Texas athletes. As the inaugural 2028 season approaches, the University of Nebraska, led by coaches Liz and Katie Sowers, is at the forefront of Power 4 flag football programs. Nebraska offers D1 scholarships, providing a prime opportunity for top Texas talent to compete at the highest level. Additionally, Ottawa University, Kansas, a national powerhouse with up to 12 NAIA scholarships, and Keiser University, Florida, an active recruiter, offer viable alternatives. Midland University, Nebraska, also actively recruits flag football players. Texas-based UT Arlington, in development, is expected to offer scholarships in the future. IMG Academy Ascenders, an 8A powerhouse, is well-positioned to capitalize on these emerging opportunities.
