Rocket Receiver Rocket Fuel: A Specific Drill for Miami Central's Speedsters
As the Miami Central Rockets prepare for another dominant 7A season, receivers coach, Mike Smith, emphasizes the importance of explosive speed and agility. To hone in on these skills, Smith's team will be running the 'Rocket Fuel' drill. This high-intensity workout consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. The drill begins with the receiver starting in a 3-point stance, then quickly exploding into a sprint, changing direction 5 yards downfield, and accelerating back to top speed. Coaching cues include 'Fast feet, fast hands,' and 'Change of direction, change of speed.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the receiver's ability to create separation and accelerate past defenders. By incorporating 'Rocket Fuel' into their summer training, the Rockets' speedsters will be ready to take their game to the next level this fall.
