Summer Speed Work for WRs: The 'Rabbit Hop' Drill

At 6A programs like Buford Wolves, wide receivers need every edge to compete at the highest level. This summer, focus on building speed and agility with the 'Rabbit Hop' drill. Set up four cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Players start at the first cone, then hop to the next cone, keeping their non-dominant foot on the ground. After completing the zig-zag, have them repeat with their dominant foot on the ground. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Keep your knees bent, stay low, and explode out of each hop.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a WR's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate out of cuts, making them a more elusive target for defenders.
