Speed and Agility for S Players: The 5-Yard Shuttle Drill

๐Ÿ“ Buford WolvesยทSunday, July 12, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At top 6A programs like Buford Wolves, speed and agility are crucial for S players to excel in coverage and support. The 5-Yard Shuttle Drill is a high-intensity exercise that targets these skills. Set up two cones 5 yards apart, with a third cone 10 yards away from the starting point. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Start at the first cone, sprint to the second cone, then immediately change direction and sprint back to the first cone. As you approach the third cone, accelerate to top speed and reach it before changing direction. Coaching cues: 'Fast feet, quick hands' and 'Change direction, don't change speed.' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, agility, and top-end speed, allowing S players to stay with receivers and make plays on the ball.
