Benedictine Cadets OL Drill: Building Power and Speed
The Benedictine Cadets' 4A football program is gearing up for a strong season, and their linemen are no exception. To improve their power and speed, the team's trainers have developed a drill that targets the OL's ability to explosively drive block and quickly recover. The drill, called the 'Power Shuttle,' involves the following: 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, then explosively drive block for 5 yards, before quickly recovering and repeating the process. Coaching cues include 'explosive' and 'fast feet,' with an emphasis on maintaining proper form throughout. This drill translates to game performance by improving the OL's ability to quickly change direction and maintain their block, giving their QB time to throw and their RB room to run. By incorporating the Power Shuttle into their training regimen, the Cadets' OL is poised for a strong season.
