Maximizing Quarterback Mobility with the 'Figure-Eight' Drill
As the 7A season approaches, quarterbacks at top programs like the Mill Creek Hawks must be prepared to extend plays with their feet. One effective drill to enhance mobility and decision-making is the 'Figure-Eight' drill. Set up two cones 10 yards apart, with a third cone 5 yards behind the first cone. Start with the quarterback at the first cone, then have them weave through the second cone and back to the first, mimicking a figure-eight pattern. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick footwork and keeping the eyes up. Coach cues include 'stay low' and 'keep it tight.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing quarterbacks to quickly change direction and avoid sacks, ultimately extending plays and creating opportunities for big gains.
