Eagles' Edge: Sideliners' Speed and Agility Drill

๐Ÿ“ Collins Hill EaglesยทSunday, July 26, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As Collins Hill Eagles prepare for the upcoming 7A season, defensive backs coach, Mike Johnson, emphasizes the importance of speed and agility training for his safeties. One drill that has been a staple in their summer camp is the 'Ladder Shuffle-Weave.' This drill targets quick changes of direction and rapid acceleration, essential for S players in the open field. To set up: place 5-6 ladders 5 yards apart. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps: start in a 3-point stance, then shuffle through the first ladder, weave through the second, and accelerate through the third. Focus on keeping the head up, staying low, and driving through the ground. This drill translates to game performance by allowing S players to rapidly close gaps and make plays on the ball. It also enhances their ability to stay with receivers in man coverage.
