S Players Shine with the 'Recovery to Coverage' Drill
At the Punahou Buffanblu's Open football program, S players are fine-tuning their skills with the 'Recovery to Coverage' drill. This high-intensity exercise targets the ability to quickly transition from pass coverage to run support. To execute the drill: Set up 3 cones in a line, 5 yards apart. S players start at the first cone, then sprint to the second cone, where they immediately transition to a defensive back stance. From there, they sprint to the third cone and back to the starting point. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Quick feet, quick hands' and 'Stay low, stay fast.' This drill translates to game performance by simulating the sudden changes in direction and speed that S players face on the field.
