Quarterback Readiness: The Kamehameha Warriors' Pre-Season Drill
As the Kamehameha Warriors prepare for another dominant season, quarterback coach Kaikea Kahalewai emphasizes the importance of footwork and decision-making. To hone these skills, Warriors' QBs will be running the 'Quick Release' drill during open programs. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. The QB starts in a shotgun stance, takes 3 steps back, and immediately releases a pass to a receiver 10 yards downfield. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the target' and 'quick release.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the QB's ability to read defenses and quickly deliver the ball to receivers. By mastering the 'Quick Release,' Warriors' QBs will be better equipped to handle the physical demands of the HHSAA schedule.
