Crusaders WRs: Master the 'Route Runner's Agility' Drill
At the Saint Louis Crusaders' Open program, Wide Receiver specialists are honing their skills with a high-intensity drill that translates to game-day performance. The 'Route Runner's Agility' drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps, with 90 seconds rest between sets. Players start at the 5-yard line, sprinting to the 20-yard line while maintaining a tight, inside release. Upon reaching the 20-yard line, they quickly pivot and sprint back to the 5-yard line, this time using an outside release. As they cross the 5-yard line, they must quickly accelerate to top speed, mimicking a deep post route. Coaches will emphasize proper footwork, body positioning, and speed changes. This drill improves reaction time, agility, and the ability to quickly change direction, all crucial skills for WRs in the open field.
