Boosting DE Speed: The Saint Louis Crusaders' Shuttle Sprint Drill

๐Ÿ“ Saint Louis CrusadersยทTuesday, July 28, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the summer heat intensifies, the Saint Louis Crusaders' defensive end prospects are gearing up for a dominant season. One key drill that's helping them gain a speed edge is the shuttle sprint. This high-intensity exercise targets the DE's ability to rapidly change direction, mirroring the quick twists and turns they'll face on the field. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaches cue the players to 'explode' off the line, focusing on a 5-yard sprint to the left, then a 90-degree turn, and finally a 5-yard sprint back to the starting point. This drill translates to game performance by improving the DE's ability to pursue and close gaps quickly, making them a more formidable force on the defensive line. By incorporating this drill into their training regimen, the Crusaders' DEs will be ready to take on the competition come kickoff.
