FridayNightPulse: Power Rush Drill for Defensive Ends

๐Ÿ“ Saint Louis CrusadersยทThursday, July 30, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At summer camps like the Saint Louis Crusaders Open program, defensive end players are honing their skills to dominate on the gridiron. One effective drill to improve their power rush is the 'Box Shuffle.' This drill targets the DE's ability to generate speed and torque off the line of scrimmage. To set up, have the DEs line up in a 3-point stance with a defender in front of them. On the whistle, the DEs shuffle their feet laterally, keeping their back foot anchored, while maintaining a tight stance. This is repeated for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'Keep your back foot firm' and 'Drive your front foot into the ground.' The Box Shuffle translates to game performance by improving the DE's ability to quickly change direction and generate power off the line, making them a more formidable pass rusher.
