Rams' Rush: A 4A Defensive End Drill for Dominance
As the Southeast Polk Rams prepare for another 4A showdown, defensive end coach, Mark Davis, emphasizes the importance of speed and agility in the trenches. To improve their edge rush, Davis has implemented a drill that targets the DE's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate off the snap. The 'Rams' Rush' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, then explosively jump to a 45-degree angle, landing on the outside foot and immediately bursting forward, focusing on quick feet and a low center of gravity. Coaching cues include 'outside foot down, inside foot up' and 'drive through the ground.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the DE's ability to quickly close the gap and disrupt the opponent's offense.
