Unlocking Speed and Agility for 4A Defensive Ends: The Iowa City West Trojan Drill

๐Ÿ“ Iowa City West TrojansยทSunday, July 5, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the 2026 high school football season approaches, defensive ends at 4A programs like Iowa City West Trojans are gearing up for a challenging campaign. To improve their speed and agility, we recommend the 'Lateral Shuffle Drill.' This drill consists of 3 sets of 20 reps, with a 30-second rest period between sets. Players start in a three-point stance, then shuffle their feet laterally 5 yards to the right and left, keeping their hands up and eyes forward. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a defensive end's ability to quickly close gaps and pursue ballcarriers. By incorporating the Lateral Shuffle Drill into their summer training, DEs can gain a competitive edge and dominate on the field.
