Unlocking Defensive End Dominance: The Iowa City West DE Drill

๐Ÿ“ Iowa City West TrojansยทThursday, July 9, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Iowa City West High School, our 4A program is gearing up for a strong season, and our defensive end players are no exception. One key drill that's helping our DEs take their game to the next level is the 'Rip and Rebound' series. This drill focuses on speed, agility, and power, all essential qualities for a dominant DE. Here's how to run it: 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Have your DEs start in a 3-point stance, then rip the ball carrier to the outside, exploding off the line with a quick step. Immediately rebound to the inside, using a powerful leg drive to stay balanced. This drill translates to game performance by improving our DEs' ability to quickly change direction and maintain control, making them a force to be reckoned with on the field.
