FridayNightPulse: DE Dominance Drill for 4A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Iowa City West TrojansยทFriday, July 24, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, Iowa City West Trojans defensive end coach, John Smith, is implementing a new drill to improve his players' speed, agility, and hand-eye coordination. The 'DE Dash and Dive' drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps. Players start at the line of scrimmage, then dash 10 yards to the left, planting their outside foot and diving to make a tackle on a bag or sled. After a 30-second rest, they repeat the drill on the right side. Coaching cues include 'explosive acceleration' and 'aggressive pursuit.' This drill translates to game performance by improving DEs' ability to quickly close the gap and make tackles in the backfield. By incorporating the 'DE Dash and Dive' drill into their training regimen, 4A programs can gain a competitive edge.
