Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian announced Friday that head football coach, John Smith, has signed a contract extension through the 2028 season. The move comes on the heels of back-to-back playoff runs for the 5A Grizzlies, who finished with a 9-3 record in 2024 and 8-4 in 2025. Smith's extension is expected to bolster the program's recruiting efforts, as the Grizzlies look to build on their recent success. The move also positions Rocky Mountain to remain competitive in the always-tough 5A classification, where the top teams in the state will be vying for a state championship. With the extension in place, Smith will now focus on leading his team through the upcoming summer camp and into the 2026 season.
