Explosive Power for 5A RBs: The Box Jump Ladder Drill

๐Ÿ“ Rocky Mountain GrizzliesยทFriday, July 10, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, 5A running backs can take their game to the next level with the Box Jump Ladder Drill. This high-intensity exercise targets explosive power, acceleration, and agility, essential skills for RBs in the competitive 5A division. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Start by placing a ladder on the ground, with each rung 12 inches apart. The player begins at the first rung and jumps up to the next, landing softly on the balls of their feet. Next, they jump back to the starting rung, mimicking a cutback move. Coaches should emphasize proper landing technique and explosive power. This drill translates to game performance by improving a RB's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate through holes, making them a more elusive and effective runner.
