Game-Changing DE Drill for 5A Programs: 'Rapid Fire' Takedown

๐Ÿ“ Rocky Mountain GrizzliesยทFriday, July 17, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the pre-season heats up, defensive end players at top 5A programs like the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies need to be prepared to take on the toughest opponents. To improve their takedown skills, we recommend the 'Rapid Fire' drill. Set up two cones 5 yards apart, with a defender on one side and a blocker on the other. The defender must rapidly fire out to the blocker, aiming for a takedown, and then quickly return to the starting position. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'Fast feet, fast hands' and 'Explosive, not labored.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the defender's ability to quickly close the gap and secure the tackle.
