Boosting Boise Brave OL Performance with the 'Anchor and Slide' Drill
For 5A programs like the Boise Brave, dominating on the line of scrimmage is crucial. To improve their blocking technique, we recommend incorporating the 'Anchor and Slide' drill into their summer training. This exercise targets the linemen's ability to stabilize and generate power from their anchor points, translating to improved run blocking and pass protection in games. To run the drill: Set up cones 5 yards apart in a zigzag pattern. Have OL players start in a 3-point stance, then explosively drive through the first cone, anchoring their feet and generating force through their legs. As they approach the second cone, they should slide their feet to maintain balance and control, keeping their chest and eyes up. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on proper technique and explosive power. This drill will help Boise Brave OL players develop the strength and agility needed to take on top competition.
