Rigby Trojans Cornerbacks: Mastering the 'Shadow' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Rigby TrojansยทFriday, July 17, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For 5A cornerbacks, the 'Shadow' drill is a game-changer. This exercise mimics the coverage techniques used in man-to-man defense, where the CB mirrors the receiver's every move. To run the 'Shadow' drill, divide your players into pairs. One player is the receiver, the other is the CB. The receiver starts at the line of scrimmage, the CB 5 yards off. The receiver runs a 5-yard route, the CB follows, staying 1-2 steps behind. The CB must stay square to the receiver, keeping their eyes on the ball. After 3 sets of 10 reps, switch roles. This drill translates to game performance by improving the CB's ability to read the receiver's body language and stay in phase with their opponent.
