FridayNightPulse: QB Read-Option Drill for 4A Programs
For Twin Falls Bruins and other 4A programs, quarterback development is crucial to success. This read-option drill focuses on footwork, decision-making, and ball security. Set up a 10-yard line with two cones 5 yards apart. The QB starts 5 yards behind the line. On the snap, they take 3-4 steps back, then plant their non-pivot foot and read the defense. If the defense is aggressive, they hand off to a running back. If they're keying the QB, they pull the ball and run. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Read the defense, not the hole.' 'Keep your eyes up and your head on a swivel.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the QB's ability to read defenses and make split-second decisions. It also enhances their ball security and footwork, reducing turnovers and increasing efficiency on the ground.
