Maverick Tight End Drill: Building Blocking Power
As the Mountain View Mavericks prepare for the upcoming 5A season, tight end coach, Mark Thompson, emphasizes the importance of building blocking power. A key drill to achieve this is the 'Anchor and Drive' exercise. Players will start in a three-point stance, with their feet shoulder-width apart and hands on the ground. On the whistle, they will explosively drive their feet into the ground, extending their arms and anchoring their hands. The coach will provide real-time feedback, focusing on proper hand placement and footwork. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 60 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving a tight end's ability to generate power and control in the trenches, allowing them to effectively block defenders and protect their quarterback.
