Rigby Trojans' Linebacker Drill: 'Speed to the Ball'

๐Ÿ“ Rigby TrojansยทFriday, July 31, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, Linebacker Coach, Alex Johnson, is emphasizing the importance of speed and agility at the 5A Rigby Trojans' football camp. One key drill that's been a game-changer for the LBs is the 'Speed to the Ball' exercise. The drill involves setting up three cones in a triangular formation, with the player starting at the apex. The coach yells 'go' and the player sprints to the first cone, then quickly changes direction to the second cone, and finally to the third cone. The player must touch each cone with their hand before returning to the starting point. The drill is performed for 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest in between sets. Coaching cues include 'keep your head up,' 'drive your legs,' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the LBs' ability to quickly close gaps and make tackles in space.
