Flyer Speed: East St. Louis S Players Dominate with this Summer Drill

As the East St. Louis Flyers prepare for their 6A title run, speed and agility coach, Mike Davis, has developed a drill to take their S players to the next level. The 'L-Shape Shuttle' targets quick changes of direction and acceleration. Players start at the 5-yard line, sprint to the 10-yard line, then immediately pivot and sprint back to the 5-yard line, before cutting to the sideline and sprinting 10 yards downfield. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Fast feet, fast feet, fast feet!' and 'Change direction, not speed!' This drill translates to game performance by improving S players' ability to quickly close gaps and cover sideline-to-sideline. It's a must-add to any 6A program's summer training regimen.
