Brother Rice Elevates Assistant to Coordinator Role
Brother Rice Crusaders head coach Brian Reardon announced Friday that assistant coach Michael Smith will take over as defensive coordinator, effective immediately. Smith has spent the past three seasons with the program, helping develop the team's defensive unit. The Crusaders, a Class 8A power from Chicago, have posted a 23-8 record over the past two seasons, including a 12-1 mark in 2024. Smith's promotion is expected to boost the program's recruiting efforts, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. The move also positions Brother Rice for a competitive 2026 season, with the team's sights set on a return trip to the IHSA state championship game. Smith's experience and knowledge of the program will be crucial in preparing the Crusaders for the upcoming season.
