FridayNightPulse: LB Dominance Drill for 6A Programs
This summer, East St. Louis Flyers linebackers can dominate on the field with the 'Speed to the Ball' drill. To start, set up cones in a zig-zag pattern 10 yards apart. Divide the linebackers into pairs, with one player as the 'chaser' and the other as the 'runner.' The chaser must sprint to the ball carrier, using a 3-step drop and a 2-step closeout. The runner must change direction quickly, using a 'hockey stop' to fake out the chaser. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest in between. Coaching cues include 'speed to the ball' and 'close out the play.' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, agility, and tackling technique. It also emphasizes the importance of reading the play and making split-second decisions.
