Unlocking Separation: A WR Drill for 8A Programs
For wide receivers at top-tier 8A programs like Brother Rice Crusaders, creating separation from defenders is key to unlocking big plays. To improve this skill, try the 'High-Low Shuffle' drill. Set up two cones 10 yards apart, with a third cone 5 yards behind the second. Players start at the first cone, shuffling to the second cone (high shuffle) and then immediately transitioning to a low shuffle back to the first cone. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include keeping the feet light and quick, using the inside foot to cut and the outside foot to drive. This drill translates to game performance by improving a receiver's ability to quickly change direction and create space, making them a more elusive target for defenders.
