FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Tight End Speed and Agility for 8A Programs
For tight ends at 8A programs like Loyola Academy Ramblers, speed and agility are crucial for creating separation from defenders. To improve these skills, we recommend the 'Tight End Ladder Drill.' Set up a ladder on the field with 5-6 rungs. Have the tight end start at one end of the ladder and perform a lateral shuffle through the ladder, focusing on quick feet and explosive acceleration. After completing the ladder, have the tight end sprint 10-15 yards downfield and back to the starting point. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps. Coaching cue: 'Fast feet, fast feet, explode!' This drill translates to game performance by allowing the tight end to quickly change direction and accelerate away from defenders, creating separation and opportunities for big plays.
