Rambler Tight End Training: 'Chain Reaction' Drill
At Loyola Academy, tight end training begins with the 'Chain Reaction' drill. This exercise targets the crucial connection between the TE and quarterback. To set up: 3-4 chains or cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5-7 yards apart. Divide into pairs: one TE, one QB. The QB starts at one end, the TE at the other. The QB calls a play, the TE runs to the first chain, receives a pass, and immediately turns upfield. The QB follows, reading the TE's body language. The TE's goal: to create a 'chain reaction' by quickly getting to the next chain, forcing the QB to react. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, focusing on quick releases and accurate reads. This drill translates to game performance by simulating the high-speed, decision-making environment of a live game.
