Speed and Agility for 8A S Players: The 10-Yard Shuttle Drill

๐Ÿ“ Loyola Academy RamblersยทSunday, July 26, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, S players at top 8A programs like Loyola Academy Ramblers can improve their speed and agility with the 10-Yard Shuttle Drill. The drill consists of three sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Players start at the 5-yard line, then sprint to the 10-yard line, and back to the 5-yard line. Coaching cues include keeping the head down, driving through the hips, and exploding out of the backpedal. This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time and acceleration, allowing S players to quickly close gaps and make tackles. To add an extra challenge, add a defender to the drill, forcing players to change direction quickly and make a tackle. By incorporating this drill into their pre-season training, S players can gain a competitive edge.
