FridayNightPulse Training Tip: St. Rita Mustangs Linebacker Drills
This summer, St. Rita Mustangs linebackers can improve their tackling technique with the 'Reaction to the Ball' drill. Set up cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Divide the linebackers into pairs, with one player as the tackler and the other as the ball carrier. The ball carrier starts at one end of the cones and weaves through the course while the tackler starts at the other end. On the whistle, the ball carrier attempts to break through the cones while the tackler reacts to the ball carrier's movement and attempts to tackle. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the ball' and 'react to the movement.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the linebackers' ability to read and react to the opposing team's offense, leading to more effective tackles and a stronger defensive unit.
