FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Carmel Greyhounds-Style RB Agility Ladder Drill

๐Ÿ“ Carmel GreyhoundsยทFriday, July 3, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At the top 6A programs like Carmel Greyhounds, running backs are held to high standards of speed, agility, and elusiveness. To improve in these areas, coaches are using a drill that combines agility ladder footwork with explosive acceleration. The "Ladder Zig-Zag Acceleration Drill" involves setting up 5-6 agility ladders in a zig-zag pattern. Players start at one end, performing a lateral shuffle through the ladders, then immediately accelerating forward through the next section. Coaches cue players to "keep their feet low and quick" and to "explosively accelerate through each section." Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to quickly change direction and accelerate through tight spaces.
